Keep Growing

Welcome to Reception New Starters for September 2021

Firstly, we would like to say hello to all of our new families and those families who may be returning with their younger children. We have created this webpage to support all of our new starters for September 2021.

This page will be used to provide parents and carers with relevant information for their child, due to start in our Reception class in September 2021.  Please keep checking back on this page for the latest developments and information.

We are working hard to ensure the very best start for your child at our school. It is such an exciting adventure to begin your learning journey in Reception so we have created a slide show to show you some of the things we enjoy in Reception at Swaffham Prior.

Frequently Asked Questions

What uniform does my child need to wear? And where can I buy school Logo items?

Children should wear grey trousers, skirt or pinafore, red polo shirt, red sweatshirt or cardigan, black school shoes. Don’t buy lace up shoes unless your child can fasten themselves.

What happens at lunch time?

Lunch is at 12 noon. Children will wash their hands for lunch and then line up in the corridor ready to collect a coloured band, depending on what they have chosen for lunch. Children then make their way to the school hall where they will be given their lunch. Children sit with their friends at the large tables and with those having packed lunch. Our lunch time supervisors are there to help the children. During the first few weeks, year 6 buddies will help the reception children at lunchtime.

Does my child get a free meal?

All children in reception, year 1 & year 2 are entitled to universal free school meals. A copy of the menu can be found under the parents tab on the website. If you are planning on providing your child with a packed lunch, could you please let a member of staff know.

 Will they have a snack?

Snack will be provided each day, this is usually apples, pears, bananas or oranges. Children under the age of 5 are entitled to free milk. Please bring water in a water bottle to keep in class.

What time does school start/finish? Where do I pick up/ drop off?

Doors open at 8.45am, register closes at 8.50am. Children will arrive in school through the hall door from the main playground. School finishes at 3pm and children should be collected from the main playground.

Will there be a staggered start to the term?

There will be a short transition at the beginning of September and those ready to begin full time can start on Monday 6th September. If your child needs a longer transition then this can be arranged.

What should I do if I have any concerns or worries about my child?

If you have any concerns or worries about your child please feel free to speak to the class teacher or contact them via email or Class Dojo.

Do they need wellington boots/outdoor clothing?

In reception the children can spend a lot of time outdoors, therefore it is a good idea if children have wellington boots that they are able to keep in school and bring a coat every day.

Is wrap around care offered, and how do we arrange this?

A breakfast club and after school club run onsite for children over 4 years. The breakfast club is 7.30am – 8.40am, younger children are taken to their classroom. After school clubs runs from 3.00pm – 6.00pm. Please contact Alyson Alecock on 07847 415390 or Jenny Bridgeman on 07462 578139

Can I park on site?

Unfortunately we do not offer any parking on site; you can park in the village hall car park and then walk through the gate to the main playground during drop off and pick up times.
